In the Shop, we listen to all who have something to say ... paying extra close attention to the Southern Jackass, of course! Chicken LittleThe fabric of a society is reflected by those within it to whom it most listens, methinks ... and so too is its destiny thereupon dependent. Yes, more of me Chicken Little rantings ... or an old tom fool making noise ... take your choice!

Without your comments, it is all but much ado ... they are the sweet feed that fuels this vehicle ... comments to many of our posts have been disabled so as to encourage everybody to leave theirs in the same place ... the sweet feed depository, aka our General Discussion Area.

Yes, you can share your thoughts or comment on anything ... and you're especially encouraged to comment on the comments of others.   That's what the Shop and the General Discussion Area is all about!   It helps make new friends and breathe some badly needed life back into this old place while giving us some valuable input as we attempt to do the same!

We'll combine and process the sweet feed, ... write some relevant posts that seem most appropriate  ... Tucker Car fill up the Tucker, and see where it takes us ... to Washington or maybe Doolittle Hollar, you just never know!

Been napping or just getting old like Bob and can't remember? No Problem ... review the previous discussion, and then Come Right In

You've got the ol' place looking better than ever mon ami!

Bob,this is excellent but would
like to see you condence the political history a bit and enlarge upon the "General Discussion Area" call it "Doolittle Town Hall" or whatever you think but the issues facing our country and things are really out of control and seriously wrong with our country would be matters of great interest to the people and you will get lots to discuss and learn from all of this. It will also help those that are depressed and have almost given up as you stated with putting on those "glasses" which we all want to just hide behind and think that things will just be fine and what can we do about it anyway? Please keep writing because you are indeed a good writer and should be writing in the papers.

Lynda Tyler said...

You know something is seriously wrong when... We call evil good and good evil. What is happening to our values and morals in our country? You were very correct is stating that we have taken prayer out of schools and have guns and children shooting classmates and teachers? We have young people believing that it's fine to just having sex without any thought of waiting until marriage and saving oneself for the right person in which to spend their life with and having children and a good family life that God intended us to have on earth. We know that our leaders are doing things that are hurting our nation and hurting the working people of today.

We need to come together and have a voice so that things will start to change back to the way that we remember when life was worth living.

Please keep us talking and praying together for what we want to happen and not let the evil take control over the good within us. I hope that you will keep talking and we will keep listening and talking to each other as we speak out for this country and for all of mankind.

Thanks!

Sweet 'Tater, Blackberry or Rhubarb? ... tell Mama it matters not ... I be hungry!

My guess is that you have maybe 12, 754 or so good ways to complete our "You know something is seriously wrong when ... "

How 'bout sharing a few while Mama fixes those pies?!

You know something is seriously wrong when you go to the Old Barber Shop website and find barber supplies!

Hello everyone! It's nice to find that the shop is still intact and going strong!

Here's my real response. You know something is seriously wrong when a society values tolerance above all things, until the truth comes to light that in order to be truly tolerant, one can believe nothing with certainty, even the need to be absolutely tolerant. When Christians are told to be tolerant of other faiths while their own is marginalized and ridiculed by the government, the press, and so-called academia, it is a sure sign that something indeed is rotten in the state of Denmark.

Good thing the real Master of the Universe doesn't live in the White House, Westminster Abbey, or the Kremlin, but above the circle of the earth, where the rulers of the earth appear as grasshoppers!

Matthew Collier said...

Uh oh-maybe I'm being given the silent treatment?

Where is everyone? I come into the shop and find no one here. Are they all in the Stall?

BOB said...

Goodness! You're not being ignored ... most everyone is asleep.

The Shop has been in abeyance and now, with a new name, it'll take some time to get folks used to stopping by.

I've made some changes to the entrance to the GDA, the current post and the sidebar ... trying to embed a pole too ... that's why I'm up!

What's your excuse ... and your take on the changes?

Matthew Collier said...

I haven't slept well since Paw Paw passed away, and now with Maw Maw fighting bone cancer, sleep has come at a premium.

I'll have to look around at the changes, but the Chamberlain article was excellent!

BOB said...

MATT, I suffer from the same SLEEP malady ... at least we won't suffer from Neville's hangover! Did fall asleep in the seventh inning last night, woke up to some infomercial after it was over.

I've always marveled at the wealth of insights and intelligence contained in that talent pool known as our founding fathers ... it becomes more remarkable when you consider that the population of the 13 colonies, including loyalists and slaves, was less than 2.5 million 1n 1775 ... unbelievable!

I've added a pole on page 2 of the post ... asking folks select the person most influencing them, from the influential group at the very end of of the post ...

BOB said...

Well, most folks know what I think of paying accomplished, top echelon athletes vulgar sums for playing a game while well qualified teachers struggle to get by ...

And of course, we all abhor cheaters ... unless they happen among our friends, heroes and role models.

It's all insanity but the vulgar salaries of star athletes are not the worst part ... each the major professional leagues hold what is known as an amateur draft ... where they select folks to bring into their organization while they hone their skills in the hope of making it to the top echelons ... sorta like hiring on at the entry level and working your way up in a company, same but different.

Truth is that many of these amateurs get bonuses of more than $1 million just for joining the "company" ... in baseball, the top bonus in 2010 was $9.9 million.

You know something is seriously wrong when ... we pay our would be stars of tomorrow literally millions of dollars before they play one game at the professional level ... and then give them OJT!

The layers of such insanity are more than those of a large onion and capable of bringing heartburn and tears ... and in it's heart lies the fact that indeed none it is necessary for there is no need to continue paying bonuses to trainees or offering vulgar contracts to top echelon players.

What are they going to do ... wash cars ... sell insurance?

To bring sanity back, you need a sweet onion ... at its heart is no bonus pool layer for trainees.

Sport needs only to be competitive the other segments in the marketplace ... and not really even that, since sports have the added lure of being something they want and are wont to do ... they should and would accept less than what they would for doing something the didn't want to do.

You know something is seriously wrong when ... the top paid baseball player makes more than the entire U.S. Senate ... and the Commissioner of Baseball, Bud Selig, makes over 35 times as much as Barack Obama, the Commissioner of the United States.

We need to seriously reconsider our values, our priorities ... and our options.

Never forget, the big bonuses and vulgar salaries are being paid for good reason(s) ... "because they're good" is but one of the onion's surface layers. Down near the heart is where you'll find the real answers.

Plain and simple, the advertisers pay high rates for their companies and their products and/or services to be promoted ... they so do because they will make an obscene ROI on their money.

More than vulgar, ... the Media pays huge, obscene sums in order to be able to broadcast the games ... for the same reason!

And so it goes ...

We're the ones stuck with the tab ... at the gate, inside the stadium, and when we buy the sponsors' products ... until we realize that, it'll keep on keeping on.

Taking the needed corrective action will not destroy sport ... it will save it!

BOB said...

Adolf Hitler was dumb ... wrote Mein Kampf, a two volume set, telling folks in advance what he was going to do ... way back in 1925 and 1926.

Most everybody else was even dumber ... they didn't pay it no nevermind!

You know something is seriously wrong when ... winning becomes an obsession and the means of so doing of little concern or consequence.

Bob, is your messenger still working?

wd said...

somebody will pay you one million dollars to go naked in front of the President and post it on the internet. (no joke).

that's when you know something is seriously wrong....

For some reason I'm getting an alert box 120.5 when I enter the Shop ... with my clothes on!

Anonymous said...

Now I'm getting 2 alert boxes ...

BOB said...

hold on!

Anonymous said...

No alert boxes now ... and you might need to update your messenger before it will work ... I had to recently update mine just to sign in ...

BOB said...

Evidently I did have an problem with Yahoo Messenger ... not sure why ... wouldn't take me password. It's working now.

Maybe it's because of the million dollar offer I made in your name on the internet.

Hopefully, the alerts are gone ... an inexplicable little javascript coding problem ... it calculates a certain value correctly, but then when it uses it, it's not always the value it says it is.

Was using the alerts to check it out.

Will be back online after eating a bite ... 10 potty breaks should be about right, methinks.

Buzz me Donkey!

John Lennon said...

"Buzz me Donkey!" was one of my best.

BOB said...

Well WD, I've been waiting for the address and number of that tom fool offering the million dollars ... can't believe he has had no takers!

What's the maximum penalty they can impose?

The Southern Jackass said that the first streaker so did to win a bet too ... 50 quid as I recall. That was some time ago ... probably equates to $1,000,000 today!

Your contest entry will receive serious consideration ... was making SJA some candy too so that he could evaluate it and determine if it is worthy of being tendered as a prize.

You know something is seriously wrong when ... the fudge keeps runing off the platter. Think that batch of goo will be saved for use as a booby prize ... not sure what happened.

There's always tomorrow ... and tomorrow and tomorrow. Creeps in, now don't it?!

Is this still a blog for spinsters? You know something is seriously wrong when a spinster comes here to blog and can find no other spinsters.

BOB said...

Actually, it's not required that folks put a spin on things or spin a yarn when they visit but all are welcome!

Gonzales Gonzales said...

I like to talk baseball and I may wish to do that here. Who is your baseball expert?

BOB said...

I'm not sure we have a baseball in house expert at the moment but if you're here to talk baseball, put some bait on your hook and talk away ... please vote in the poll too ... enter the contest ... comment on the current post, or start a discussion of your own.

Speaking of baseball, looks like Lou preempted Bobby ...

BOB said...

Actions speak the loudest!

You know something is seriously wrong when ... the entrance to the GDA invites you to join the party and the featured post preaches agin it!!

However, that's what "Parties ..." does!

Though it's long, it's still a work in progress ... may add a poll or some A/V ... or make it multiple pages like "Chamberlain's Hangover"
... but I would like the discussion to include your relevant thinking.

It seems that George Washington was bit more than just another pretty face or the general of the winning side ... goodness!

As we move forward, my sense that the answers are there for the having is surprising ... but truly I do!

What say you?

BOB said...

You know something is wrong when ... nobody cares enough to comment.

Anonymous said...

Tremendously well-written, enlightening post sir!

BOB said...

Dang! Boss, you snuck in on me ...

Been waiting to hear how things went ... that's a joke, son ... been waiting to hear for a long time. Compared to me, Uncle Virgil has 20-20 hearing!

But, I would like to know how your mom is doing ... you too, of course.

Thanks for caring, for reading the post ... and the too kind words, or was it three?

I'll try to add labels before going to bed ... goodness, 5:30!!

Later ...

BOB said...

Well, though nobody seemed to notice ... or them what did, didn't feel obliged to so say ... me efforts to condense John's "thoughts", birthed an obvious faux pas of the first order and necessitated a revision.

Remember, where I said "17th century journalist and publisher,Marchamont Nedham, introduced a new meaning ... the one upon ours is based ... "a representative democracy; a 'centralized government in one center, and that center the nation" ... ?

That's hogwash ... our government ain't based on no "representative democracy" ... I knowed that ... you did too, methinks ... and certainly John Adams didn't so intend!

I just changed it to read ... but there is another, more recent, special meaning for the words "republic, commonwealth, popular state" ... introduced by 17th century journalist and publisher, Marchamont Nedham and used to denote a Representative Democracy ... a "government in one centre, and that centre the nation"

Adding to page 3 ... "Seems like John's notion of a republic is a mite different from Marchamont Nedham's ... now don't it? He would call it yet another example of abuse and misuse inflicted upon the word, methinks."

I like eggs, scrambled and fried, over medium well ... just not on my face ... when you disagree, or suspect a faux pas ... let me know!!

It is always my great pleasure to welcome the Shop's First Lady ... Miss Rosa Lynn Carter!

You were here when I wasn't and now that I am, you aren't!

My apologies ... it won't happen again, at least until the next time.

"Go Bobbah Cox"! ... why Miss Rosa Lynn, the things you do say!

Lots of folks are looking forward to that, methinks. Hopefully, the Braves will surprise and make it to the playoffs, winning their last game too!

Unfortunately, their chances of catching the boys from eastern Pennsylvania now seem to be fading faster than the daylight after the sun sets and holding off the Rockies won't be easy.

I appreciate your kind words ... did you vote in the three polls?

Writing about John Adams and the boys is fun but reading John's writing is tough ... him and Miss Abbie had an interesting life.

He was the first president to serve but one term, his son the second ... putting you and Jimmy in good company!

Y'all come back now, hear?!

Go Braves!!

"It should be your care, therefore, and mine, to elevate
the minds of our children and exalt their courage;
to accelerate and animate their industry and activity;
to excite in them an habitual contempt of meanness,
abhorrence of injustice and inhumanity, and
an ambition to excel in every capacity, faculty, and virtue.
If we suffer their minds to grovel and creep in infancy,
they will grovel all their lives."

Anonymous said...

Who said that?

BOB said...

I thought it was you what did!

John Adams, methinks!

Been asleep ... see the Braves got crushed!

Braves are in the playoffs baby! ...

Anonymous said...

Great post Bob ... but the link for the general discussion area takes one to your edit post page!

BOB said...

In virtue of me being tired, I'll let you fix it Boss!

Seriously, I didn't have that problem ... were you coming from the Stall, using the widget ... or from inside the shop?

Anonymous said...

When coming from the Stall the link works correctly, as well the link you have above the posts ... but when clicking on the link within your post on page 3 it takes me to your edit post page ...

Sakes Alive, my good friend Jere ... Mercy!

Jere ... Ferdinand for short ... I was nearly seven years old when I found out his name was really Jere ... thought it was Jerry and he just couldn't spell!

It's remarkable that he found me ... what with the Shop's change of address, but I'm thrilled that he did!!

He has insights few of us possess and a wonderful sense of humor to boot ... virtuous and rather plain speaking at the same time, the kind of folks of which John Adams talking when he gave Aristotle what for!

I hope to be hearing from him daily as he shares gems from Al Gore's stolen invention ... let's hope he visits often and deposits bushels of sweetfeed here too!

Thanks Jere!

Bob, the link to the general discussion area located within the body of your post is still directing folks to the edit posts page rather than to the gda ...

BOB said...

Thank Boss ... and apologies to all!

It's that danged Blogger ... inserting code, using it's "artificial intelligence" ... not sure what triggers it so doing but it's a problem of long standing, usually with their images which I don't use.

Will see that it is attended

Thanks again

The link is working beautifully now Bob ... and there's a new post in the Stall!

Anonymous said...

Another great post Bob ... I see you're getting quite a few readers ... in spite of scarce comments ...

BOB said...

Thanks donkey, it would have been better with different pics methinks ... but what's did is done.

The big thing is for the next one to properly integrate with it ... fear redundancies.

As I commented in the stall, the widget doesn't seem to be taking the style sheet info ... so it uses your template's colors, background etc.

Was going to register the widget so folks could have it on their site but can't until that problem is resolved.
